EU defense ministers agree on cooperation between civilian, military actors

On Youtube with Solana:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcROWRhjgeQ&feature=player_embedded

Solanas last hour deal? At least it's what he always wanted, making police and firepolice look like soldiers and military "helping" in civil areas controlling the citizens...

"The EU ministers have agreed to cooperate in training, risk assessment, intelligence, information sharing, evacuation, logistic support and strategic transport. The formal blueprint will be discussed again in November."

"Civilian and military cooperation is also necessary to strengthen the EU’s ‘capability development’. Capabilities are different forms of support used to contribute to peace and security in conjunction with military operations or as preventive measures within the context of the EU’s crisis management. They may involve transportation, health care or IT systems. At the meeting on Monday, the defence ministers discussed how to coordination between civilian and military actors can be improved in this area."

AoC - Gamerules for New Economics?

when a pictures says much more than words...advertisement in news about AoC,

"Holy War" - "* three different faiths"...

http://www.webnewswire.com/node/464800

There are news from the Alliance of Civilizations.

And it is sold together with an advertisement for a new game, what is called "Holy War".

To see the whole page, click here.

The game intro (by clicking the ad) says very telling:

"Dive into the age of the Holy War! Take on the role of a Knight as a Christian, Saracen or Pagan and conquer or defend the Holy Land!...Pursue Diplomacy, Form Alliances, Order Battles and Holy Battles, Warrior vs. warrior fights, Plundering,Arena and Tournaments, Marketplace, Shops, Mercenary Market, Tavern ...", LINK

And Ban Ki-Moon in New York talks of new alliances and about new rules on how to play the Financial game. The rules come from the AoC:

"The Alliance is demonstrating its dynamism in other ways, too.

Its new projects include a fellowship programme for emerging leaders from the Muslim world and the West. Here too, the Alliance is creating far-reaching partnerships -- bringing together the British Council, the League of Arab States, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the German Marshall Fund.

The Alliance’s Rapid Response Media Mechanism is broadening the debate. The Alliance is setting up a clearinghouse on education about religions and beliefs.

It is working with the Anna Lindh Foundation to restore trust following the Gaza crisis.

And it is collaborating with the United Nations Global Compact to launch a Corporate Sector Network, with the support of Turkish Prime Minister [Tayyip] Erdoğan.

The Alliance is helping us to get through these troubled times. I thank the High Representative, President [Jorge] Sampaio, and you, this initiative’s invaluable friends.

Another friend of the Alliance, Enrique Iglesias, the Secretary-General of the Ibero-American Secretariat, has said that the current economic crisis offers a chance to transform our world. I agree. As he said, we have the possibility for “not only a new paradigm of economic development, but also a set of basic principles -– dialogue, understanding and tolerance –- which are embodied in the Alliance of Civilizations...”

Solana: the shift

"It was a challenging day for Javier Solana to take the stage at an American university. The European Commission's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy addressed a packed Yenching Auditorium just hours after President Barack Obama '91 announced that the United States was cancelling its plans for missile interceptors to be installed in Poland and the Czech Republic, a move that alienated many in an East Central Europe that was already skeptical of the new American president. In light of these complications, Solana could have avoided or deferred the issue: but he had his talking points prepared before many in the room had even heard about the shift: he welcomed it.

However much that sentiment may have rattled governments in Warsaw or Prague, who are fearful the American policy reversal has cost them both face and security, the E.U. foreign policy chief displayed no hesitancy. As Kennedy School of Government professor Stephen Walt put it after hearing Solana's address, "it is clear that Europe at least has a foreign policy agenda".

....

Viewed in this light, Solana's address shed important light on Europe's evolving foreign policy. He began by warning that other powers could not be isolated, and the world dominated, by a U.S.-E.U. "G2": the West "can no longer," he intoned, "run the world as we used to". Moreover, he observed that a globalized world required effective governance..."MORE:

Zapatero: Isolate Extremists

NEW YORK – Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero lobbied Tuesday for a “grand alliance with moderate Islam” to isolate violent Muslim radicals, and he defended “global political action” to achieve peace and security in Afghanistan.
Zapatero made his remarks in an interview with CNN taped in New York, where he traveled to participate in a meeting on climate change and at the opening of the 64th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
Zapatero took advantage of the occasion to defend the Hispanic-Turkish initiative for an Alliance of Civilizations. When asked if Spain, the victim of the deadly commuter train bombings of March 11, 2004, is now safe from Islamic terrorism, he said that “nobody is free of this madness” and therefore he insisted on the need to promote a culture of understanding between civilizations to internationally isolate violent factions. two ways of freedom of speech

Photobucket

Has this recent unequeal treatment of Israel and the Arab World by Javier Solana gone unwatched? It seems as just another example on how the goals of the big players justify their means. Please have a look:

After the Cartoon Crisis in 2006 Solana warned that "Muslims should not be provoked, even for the sake of free speech and open thought." (22 September 2006) LINK

Then freedom of expression was the furthest thing from his mind then, much to the consternation of the Dutch, who noticed already a half year before, at the time the Cartoon Crisis broke out:"He has toured around in order to offer apologies..."

"Netherlands blasts Solana on alleged cartoon apologies
The Netherlands has sharply criticised EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana for the allegedly apologetic tone he has used when facing muslim countries in the row over Danish cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed...Dutch daily De Telegraaf quotes the Dutch state secretary for European Affairs Atzo Nicolai as characterising the tone used by Mr Solana as "shocking..." LINK

But now Israel blames to be threatened by a Swedish newspaper article and here Javier Solana shows just the opposite reaction!

In an interview in Al Arabiya on September 04, LINK, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana refused to condemn the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet's blood libel against Israel (LINK), saying that what the paper did falls under freedom of expression and one is free to agree or disagree with it.

This happened despite outcries from Italian Foreign Minister Frattini:

"Italian FM urges EU to condemn Swedish newspaper report, calls it ‘act of blatant anti-Semitism’ LINK(see also here: LINK)

Finally I found a blogger who reported about this two ways of dealing with similar issues here:

"Solana hated Mohammed cartoons, no problem with antisemitism" LINK

At the same time The European Union also condemned the Israeli announcement, demanding an immediate end to settlement construction. "The position of the European Union is well known. All settlement activities must stop," EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana told reporters on the margins of an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Stockholm. LINK Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini told AFP that the EU foreign ministers were united in their criticism of Israel
as I had reported here: LINK

Interesting enough American FM Hillary Clinton jumped on the same train as Javier Solana in her 2009 September 11 speech: "An individual’s ability to practice their religion should have no bearing on others individuals’ freedom of speech. The protection of speech about religion is particularly important since persons of different faiths will inevitably hold divergent views on religious questions."  (more here:LINK).

And both tie it to the need of an Alliance of Cilvilizations.

("Noting that governments could take action to prevent the divide from growing further, Solana stressed that this might not be enough, and civil society elements should assume a role to establish ties between the civilizations." LINK)

July 14: EUphrates dries up - a sign?

This news was published on Javier Solanas birthday July 14, 2009

by Assyrian News Agency: (Posted GMT 7-14-2009 6:29:22):

"Iraq Suffers As the Euphrates River Dwindles"

"...Maaku mai!" they shout, holding up their rusty sickles. "There is no water!"

The Euphrates is drying up. Strangled by the water policies of Iraq's neighbors, Turkey and Syria; a two-year drought; and years of misuse by Iraq and its farmers, the river is significantly smaller than it was just a few years ago. Some officials worry that it could soon be half of what it is now.

The shrinking of the Euphrates, a river so crucial to the birth of civilization that the Book of Revelation prophesied its drying up as a sign of the end times, has decimated farms along its banks, has left fishermen impoverished and has depleted riverside towns as farmers flee to the cities looking for work...."

Hillary Clinton on AoC

Hillary Clinton, Sept. 11, 2009: Remarks Upon Receipt of the Roosevelt Institute's Four Freedoms Award at the Roosevelt Institute's Four Freedoms Medals Gala Dinner http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2009a/09/129164.htm
"....We wish to stand firmly on the side of the freedom of religion. As President Obama noted in his historic speech in Cairo, faith should bring us together. That's why we have welcomed international efforts such as Turkey and Spain's leadership in the Alliance of Civilizations. It’s one of the reasons that on my first trip as Secretary of State I visited Indonesia – the world’s most populous Muslim country and a secular democracy. It’s why we are encouraging people of different religions to come together not only in dialogue, but in service. In projects ranging from Malaria prevention in Africa to disaster assistance in South Asia, we are laying a foundation for good works – and good relations – among the world’s religious communities.
Learning to respect the faith of our neighbors should be the price of admission into the 21st century. Now, in some cases, threats to religious freedom come from authoritarian regimes. Some Eritreans have been imprisoned in shipping containers for seeking to practice their non-violent beliefs. In others cases, bias and discrimination by majorities toward minority faiths or hateful ideologies can threaten the freedom of belief. So we must speak out forcefully against these wrongs wherever they exist.
Now, some claim that the United Nations can best protect the freedom of religion by adopting what is called an “anti-defamation” policy that would restrict the freedom of expression and the freedom of religion. I, obviously, strongly disagree. An individual’s ability to practice their religion should have no bearing on others individuals’ freedom of speech. The protection of speech about religion is particularly important since persons of different faiths will inevitably hold divergent views on religious questions. And these differences should be met with tolerance, not suppression of discourse. And the United States will stand against the idea of defamation of religion in the United Nations General Assembly and the Human Rights Council. (Applause.)..."

also Barry Chamish has his eyes on Malta:

from his yesterday article:
"THE MALTESE COMPASSION
by Barry Chamish
Here's the story of one fearless man,
Trying to break the deception of a powerful clan.

It all began when King Juan Carlos, called by the Vatican, "The Defender Of The Holy Places Of Jerusalem" decided to take a journey to Malta. It was going to be a dastardly visit. But how?
Mediterranean Union set up liaison office in Malta for EU/Arab League
http://www.di-ve.com/Default.aspx?ID=72&Action=1&NewsId=63393&newscategory=36
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said that a liaison office for the Union for the Mediterranean will be set up in Malta and will be inaugurated in November at the former MCESD offices in Floriana, adjacent to the Police depot. During an interview by PBS journalist Fiorella Pace on Radio 101 digital, Tonio Borg said that the aim of the liaison office is to join the works of the European Commission and the Arab League. Tonio Borg also said that the King of Spain Juan Carlos as well as the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will be visiting Malta in the coming months. He also mentioned that Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano could visit Malta next year. King Juan Carlos going to Malta in November
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles...ta-in-november
The announcements were made by Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg yesterday morning as he announced that the EU-Arab League liaison centre was expected to open in Malta in October. Speaking during a recorded radio interview, Dr Borg said the liaison centre, manned by representatives from Malta, the EU and the Arab League, would be housed in the former Malta Council for Economic and Social Development office, close to the police headquarters. He expressed hope that the office would become a "permanent secretariat" for discussions between the EU and the Arab world.

‘5+5 Forum’ discusses relaunch of Med Union
CORDOBA - Senior officials from 10 western Mediterranean countries met here Tuesday to discuss the relaunch of the Mediterranean Union, which has been stalled over the recent war in Gaza. The one-day meeting in the southern city of Cordoba brought together foreign ministers or representatives from Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
Launched at a Paris summit in July
(farmer: on Solanas birthday July 14),
the Mediterranean Union groups EU member states with countries in North Africa, the Balkans, the Arab world as well as Israel in a bid to foster cooperation in one of the world's most volatile regions. EU foreign affairs chief Javier Solana has also called an informal meeting for Thursday in Brussels to try and revive the project, a European source in Cairo said Monday. "We are looking, in the name of the Arab Maghreb Union, for the support of France and Spain to contribute to a narrowing of positions... to reach a solution on the issue," Moroccan Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi-Fihri, who is co-chairing Tuesday's meeting with Spain, told Arab media.

Their world opened up. The Catholic states of Spain, France, Italy, Malta and Portugal were about to ally with the Arab League. The Arabs would only play ball if Israel was dealt with. That's where Solana and Israel's President Peres came into the picture:

President Peres meets EU High Comissioner Solana(Communicated by the President's Spokesperson)31 Aug 2009
Israel President Shimon Peres held a working meeting this morning withJavier Solana, Secretary-General of the Council of the EU and HighRepresentative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. They discussedthe advancement of the Israel-Palestinian peace process and of the Arabpeace initiative, as well as the strengthening of relations between Israeland the European Union. Solana arrived in Israel after meeting with thePresident of Syria, and after his visit to Israel will meet with thePresident of Egypt and visit Lebanon.
The game was so obvious. Yet no Jew chooses to understand how Israel is to be the corpse of the Vatican-Arab plan.
Part one-end
Part two, personal:
COMPASSION
And that's what I do. I reveal the deep plans when somehow, no one else will stare into the obvious abyss. And for this I have suffered many abuses, too many from Jews, and until this week, less commonly from Christians...."
Barry, I am so thankful you covered the Malta issue too! Praying for your safety!
