Sept. 29: "The European Commission has rushed through approval for the use of two untested "swine flu" vaccines in the 27 countries of the European Union as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Solana: the shift

"It was a challenging day for Javier Solana to take the stage at an American university. The European Commission's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy addressed a packed Yenching Auditorium just hours after President Barack Obama '91 announced that the United States was cancelling its plans for missile interceptors to be installed in Poland and the Czech Republic, a move that alienated many in an East Central Europe that was already skeptical of the new American president. In light of these complications, Solana could have avoided or deferred the issue: but he had his talking points prepared before many in the room had even heard about the shift: he welcomed it.

However much that sentiment may have rattled governments in Warsaw or Prague, who are fearful the American policy reversal has cost them both face and security, the E.U. foreign policy chief displayed no hesitancy. As Kennedy School of Government professor Stephen Walt put it after hearing Solana's address, "it is clear that Europe at least has a foreign policy agenda".

Zapatero: Isolate Extremists

NEW YORK – Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero lobbied Tuesday for a “grand alliance with moderate Islam” to isolate violent Muslim radicals, and he defended “global political action” to achieve peace and security in Afghanistan.

Has this recent unequeal treatment of Israel and the Arab World by Javier Solana gone unwatched? It seems as just another example on how the goals of the big players justify their means. Please have a look:

After the Cartoon Crisis in 2006 Solana warned that "Muslims should not be provoked, even for the sake of free speech and open thought." (22 September 2006) LINK

Then freedom of expression was the furthest thing from his mind then, much to the consternation of the Dutch, who noticed already a half year before, at the time the Cartoon Crisis broke out:"He has toured around in order to offer apologies..."

But now Israel blames to be threatened by a Swedish newspaper article and here Javier Solana shows just the opposite reaction!

In an interview in Al Arabiya on September 04, LINK, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana refused to condemn the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet's blood libel against Israel (LINK), saying that what the paper did falls under freedom of expression and one is free to agree or disagree with it.

This happened despite outcries from Italian Foreign Minister Frattini:

Interesting enough American FM Hillary Clinton jumped on the same train as Javier Solana in her 2009 September 11 speech: "An individual’s ability to practice their religion should have no bearing on others individuals’ freedom of speech. The protection of speech about religion is particularly important since persons of different faiths will inevitably hold divergent views on religious questions."  (more here:LINK).

And both tie it to the need of an Alliance of Cilvilizations.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) -- The European Union has received Iranian proposals, a spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said, as Tehran came under renewed Western pressure to swiftly engage in "meaningful" talks to resolve the dispute over its nuclear program.

"We have received the Iranian proposal...It is currently being studied," the spokeswoman said...

The package addressed "various global issues," added Iran's English language Press TV.

The announcements were made by Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg yesterday morning as he announced that the EU-Arab League liaison centre was expected to open in Malta in October.
